Creating a  Site with Google Meet

A site is a big platform and there is a lot of work that has to be done when it comes to projects on Google Sites. That’s why sites are usually done as a group project. So here are the steps you need to follow in order to create a practical and useful site:

1. First the students taking part in the making of the site have to create a Google Meet so they can discuss their ideas about the site. Since the Google Meet app lets up to 100 people in a video chat it is really nice to work with it. The pupils can invite guest teachers and talk to people across the world.
2. Second, the participants in the project have to present their ideas and show how they would look and how they would work so that everyone can decide for themselves which ideas they prefer and which ideas should be a part of the project.  For this part of the project the “Whiteboard” tool and the “Present now” option would be very helpful. With the “Whiteboard” tool they can write equations, diagrams or even sketch out their ideas. And with the “Present now” option they can show their presentations or present different files and information that they have found and that could be useful for the project.
3. The students can use the Google Meet app so they can connect with students all over the world. That way they can get even more ideas and inspiration and take a look at things from other people’s point of view. They can have online events with other people around the world like debates or discussions. These events can be recorded and put in their Google Sites project.
4. If the theme of the project and the website is not a thing but a place the pupils can connect with students at that place and get more interesting and detailed information about the place they are researching. They can ask their schoolmates for video material, pictures and other kinds of data that they could include in their projects. If the Google Site is related to journalism together with their friends from other parts of the world they can create reports, dialogs etc. with Google Meet.
5. After they collect their data they can organize in the Google Site application and put it in different pages and subpages. They can make different sections for different types of files since you can include almost every type of file in the Google Sites.
6. Through Google Meet the participants in the project can also create events where they can present their work to the teachers or to other students. They can discuss their work with other people. The students can invite teachers to meetings so they can present their work.
7. On the Google Sites app students can put research papers, essays, pictures, tables, documents and presentations all at once. The Google Sites application supports a lot of different variations of files and that is why the creation of a Google Site is a group project. The pupils can also put Dives with other files in them on their Google Sites.
8. If the students don’t know how to align their schedules and some of them always miss the meetings, all they have to do is to ask the administrator of the meeting to put the meetings in everyone’s calendars. That way no one will miss the meetings and the team will always be complete. Google Meet and Google Calendar make it very easy to stay organized and keep track of your plans.
9. The Google meetings will be very useful not just for sharing ideas but also so that the students can distribute their tasks on the project and discuss the way they shall be done. The participants of the team can help each other if they have a problem with any of the tasks or if something is unclear. Because of Google Meet the students can be more effective as a team and it’s easier for them to learn to work in groups. This way they can develop and work on their people skills too.
10. After everyone does their research and gathers the information they need the team that is working on the project would have to make another meeting so they can decide how to organize all of the information in the site. The site needs to be eye catching and has to look nicely so that people are interested in reading it. But also in these meetings any mistakes have to be removed and it is important to make sure that all of the information is accurate.
11. When everyone is done and the Google Site project is finished it is time for the students to present their project. In order for the project to be interactive so that all of the students in the class can participate the rest of them have to write questions in the Chat Section of Google Meet. This way the teacher can check who has been listening to the project and the rest of the students don’t have to interrupt the presentation of their classmates.

Overall Google Meet takes a big part in the making of a project, especially the bigger projects that include more people and more information and research. All of the tools of Google Meet can be very helpful and useful when making a Google site or any other kind of group activity. With Google Meet we can study in a better and way more interesting way. It helps us build connections, makes it easier to have group meetings and it improves student’s digital learning experience. Through Google Meet we develop our media literacy, critical thinking and our people skills. It also makes the educator’s teaching experience better because everything is done faster and easier. Google Meet gives us the opportunity to do things in a way that is way more engaging to the students and because of this their productivity levels will be higher too.
